Bairns and Lassies, A Message From the Chairman!

A massive thanks to all racers, parents and coaches who traveled to Hillend for the Bairns and Lassies race at the weekend. It was a fantastic turnout with 16 racers from the club competing. A special mention goes to those racers competing in their first races.

Hillend is one of the more challenging slopes. If you don't believe this then take a hike up to the starting hut and have a look down from the top of the slope! Several racers attended a valuable training session with Gary on the slope on Saturday and got the chance to ski some gates. In an action-packed weekend some even managed a swim on Saturday afternoon at the Novotel before the skiing then enjoyed a meal together in the hotel. Before bed, there was time for some informal video-analysis with some of the racers getting the chance to see themselves in action projected onto the restaurant ceiling! Timings for training had to be amended on the day because of the University races but as a result of a quieter slope later in the afternoon more time for skiing was possible.

The commitment shown from all our racers on Sunday was very impressive. It was great to see them supporting each other, not just when things went well but also when there were tumbles and straddles…all part of racing. Thanks to Gary, Andrew and Iain for providing excellent race support on Sunday and for the training on Saturday. Despite some chilly weather, I hope that all racers (and parents!) enjoyed themselves and will encourage others to enter future races.

Graeme
