Scottish Schools Snowsports Association School Championships

Out of 500 + total (individual) entries to the Scottish Schools Snowsports Association School championships, 7 Gordon Skiers made it through to the Secondary Schools finals.

Banchory A Team had 4 members, Rachel Brown, Andrew Simpson, Kathleen Ray and Hamish Alexander whilst Westhill Academy managed to rustle up 3 team members with Beth Whatford, Rachael and Jack Morrison

Banchory were in the Experienced Racers category, with Westhill qualifying for the Novice category on race points.

The racing was electric and Banchory managed to secure 4'th place, in an extremely close final race, by only 1 point.

Westhill had a sterling performance with an unbeaten record, through heats and finals. Again, some extremely close racing with impressive come-backs to defend the wins.

All racers were on great form and Rachael Morrison's smile was wider than the piste when she discovered she had won. Andrew (Shooders) Simpson had the closest race of the day, against the very talented Owen Vinter. Andrew made a heroic dive for the line, after a race that was impossible to split, but the decision was a dead heat. I don't think a World Cup final could have created more tension on a race run, with all spectators left scratching their heads over who took the win.

Well done to all racers and I'm already looking forward to next year and hoping to see even more Gordon Skiers on final's day.

Good luck to all 16 racers we have in Edinburgh this weekend. We have a training session on Saturday to get ready for the big race on Sunday. Fingers crossed for good results and I hope this encourages other members to be enthused for future races.

See You All Soon, Gary W
