Gordon Skiers aims to provide high quality performance coaching and skiing development within a family friendly club for young people living in the north east of Scotland hoping to improve their alpine ski racing skills.
The club expects racers to enter key Scottish snow and dry-mat races and will provide support at such events.
We endeavor to maximize opportunities for race and fitness training throughout Scotland and also support and help facilitate progression for skiers at club level and to provide guidance for those wishing to compete at national level or those considering coaching/instruction qualifications.
Our Skiing Year
The year is split into dry mat training at Alford on Sundays from September/October to December followed by snow training from January to Easter either at the Lecht or Glenshee. The club has a good hut at the Lecht but in order to maximise training opportunities we have tried to follow the snow over recent years.
New for 2017, Gordon skiers will extend training through the springtime by utilising Alford and Braehead coaching sessions in support of the series of races scheduled in May and June. Gordon skiers will break for the summer in line with the school holiday period, recommencing again in late August.
We are always keen to take on new members interested in ski racing and we run a trials day at Alford ski slope before the dry mat training starts and throughout Alford or The Lecht sessions upon request.
The club is keen to encourage our young skiers to enter races in Scotland and provides race support from the coaches at these events. We want to specifically encourage and support skiers with no or limited experience of racing to enter some races.
In addition to the dry mat and snow training, we are organising a series of training events on mats and snowdomes later throughout the season. Events will be published via the blog as well as Facebook.
We have a second hand ski and clothing sale early in the dry mat season (great bargains!) and will also have a ski-tech/servicing demonstration for the racers and parents during one Sunday at Alford.
