Training Report, November 16th

Many Thanks to all who came to training today. It was a very wet start and I saw plenty of soggy skiers at the half time break.

We managed to secure the use of the Alford Scout Hut, to keep the fitness training in the warm and dry. A bit of a change for the fitness and the feedback, so far, has been positive ”fitness today with the video was great fun” (Thanks Ellie) Thanks to Alistair and Mark for helping out with the fitness. (Alistair even managed to put quite a few of the Athletes to shame by completing the whole session, in his denims)

We'll continue to work on improving the fitness for all, as we know how important it is for overall performance.

We had a slight switch around today with the coaches and groups and, from what I saw, everyone seemed to benefit from the change. I was working with Perf Squad 2 and our focus was on agility and line. We spent half the session skiing with our boots completely unclipped and it was very impressive to see everyone improve and realise that skiing is not all about having tight boots. We even managed to ski some gates with our boots loose.

As usual the end of session races were a highlight. Jamie's team took the victory today and it was great to see Keiran back training with us and in top form.

We had some fantastic recoveries in today's races, but the prize has to go Morven Douglas, with her spectacular backwards finish. I've never seen a racer cross the line looking so relaxed and calm, whilst looking back up toward the start line.
Numbers allowed the coaches to race each of the performance squads today. Squad 1 was a little light in numbers, so special thanks to Meela Alan for racing in both races. Great Effort.

It was all going so well! Coming in to the last leg of Coaches V Performance Squad 1, Jamie took over with a small advantage over Tabby for the performance squad but the pressure of Tabby breathing down his neck proved too much. The Performance squad snatched the win as Jamie crashed out on the second last gate!

I'm already looking forward to next week and hope to see a few parents line up for the end of session races. It's just about having fun, so don't be nervous. I'm sure the coaches will be willing to give a few pointers.

Thanks All, Gary W
