Twin Peaks Day 2, Hillend

Race Day at Hillend
Many thanks to coach Gary Whatford for this report on Day 2 at Hillend.

"Today is one of the best days’s I’ve ever seen at Hillend. Blue skies and high temperatures gave way to some red hot racing.

Solid performances from both girls, Rachael and Beth. Both had a pair of clean runs with Rachael placing 4’th in a very tough field in the under 16’s and Beth managing to take the Gold in the under 14’s.

Andrew Simpson had 2 outstanding runs in the boys under 16’s, finishing 8’th in a very large entrance from most of Scotland’s major clubs. Younger brother Neil had a slight stumble on his first run of the under 14’s, but definitely redeemed himself on his second run with a performance that had many of the older boys taking notice.

Ryan Pye and Ben Whatford represented the club the under 12 and under 10 category, respectively. Ryan had a bit of a tumble as he crossed the line, on his first run, leaving him unable to complete his second run. He soon recovered though and was back to full fitness. Young Ben managed two runs and finished in 6’th place, although on his first run he got a little excited crossing the line and had a little disagreement with the last gate.

All racers and coaches were very happy with the performances and all left happy and fulfilled.

The first course was set by LRSA’a Neil Walker, a veteran of Hillend and the Head Coach. The second course was set by Mark Vinter, of GSR. He set a very challenging and complicated course, with 5 combinations and difficult set of spacings. The Bairns raced a stubbies version of Neil’s course."

Many thanks to coaches Gary Whatford and James Paxton for their support over the weekend.
