Twin Peaks Day 1, Fir Park Tillycoultry.

The weekend of 7/8th June is Twin Peaks Slalom Race.  Day 1 was at Fir Park Tillycoultry.  Saturday morning saw a team of 7 Gordon Skiers ready for the warm up at 8.45. Rachel Brown, Beth Whatford and Ellie Green were representing the girls whilst  Ben Whatford, Ryan Pye, Neil Simpson and Andrew Simpson were flying the flag for the boys, all ably coached by Gary Whatford.

Fabulous weather with clear blue skies and a warm breeze.  The Under 14s and older had their first run followed by the U12s and younger using stubby poles who had 2 runs down the same course and then the under 14s and older finished things off with their second run on a new course.

There were some excellent performances with pride of place going to Beth Whatford finishing third in U14 girls, Rachel Brown was 4th in the U16 girls and Ellie Green has to get a mention for 2 clean runs to finish 9th in only her second race!

There were some good results from the boys as well, Ryan was 8 in U12, Ben was 5 in U10.
Andrew was 6 in U16 and Neil was 14 after a brave hike at the last gate but then was allowed to do the second run!!  For all the boys excellent effort after moving up age categories. All moved up apart from Ben.

Many thanks go to Gary for his support and coaching on the day.  Rachel was heard to say she had Gary's words in her head all the way down as she completed a sizzling second run!  We do however have to apologise for Gary's shorts being at half mast as he serviced the skis between races!

Thanks to some seriously slick organisation the racing was over by 1pm so the team shifted camp down to Hillend in Edinburgh for a couple of hours practice ready for  Day 2 of the Twin Peaks.  Despite the heavens opening a strong training session was completed, supported by Gary and James, with some very sodden skiers at the end of it.  Hears hoping the hotels have some good drying facilities.  Good luck to everyone for day 2!
