The new Gordon Skiers committee met for the first time last week and thought you might like to hear some of our plans. As the new chairperson I am very lucky to have such enthusiastic folk working with me on the committee. The 3 main priorities agreed were coaching, sponsorship and communications. For those of you who have seen me skiing, you will be relieved to hear that Gary Whatford will be coaching the kids on our new coaching programmes. Gary will take on the combined roles of coaching convenor and head coach for next season (no pressure!). He is developing a performance squad and a development squad. More details will be circulated soon regarding this.
In this modern world of social media, improving the communication within
the club has been challenging. Paul Green has taken on this significant task and
already has plans in place to help with this. The club now has a blog that will
provide a shorter term solution. www.gordonskiers.blogspot.co.uk
We will put as much information relevant to the smooth running of the club as
we can on this blog. If you have a query then please try checking the blog
first. Ultimately our aim is to develop a sophisticated but user friendly
website but this will take some time to achieve. I am aware that not everyone
uses Facebook/Twitter etc but the volume of email traffic within the club has
become unmanageable at times especially for the club secretary and treasurer. We
hope that checking the blog will help keep you up to date with club matters. If
racers want to post any article they think might be of interest to other club
members then please send these to Paul.
Stuart McAulay has kindly taken on the role of finding more sponsorship for
the club. Running a ski club is costly and sponsorship is essential to help
develop the club and equally importantly keep membership and training fees at an
acceptable level. If you know of potential sponsors then please let Stuart
know.
The club has enjoyed some recent successful racing at Firpark in
Tillicoutry, Hillend in Edinburgh and Braehead in Glasow. (details/photos on the
blog)
We will post the dates soon for dry mat skiing, trials day, ski sale and
for a potential club training/fun weekend to Braehead Snow Factor.
Finally, the committee is very keen to get your views on the club including
what you like about it and what you think could be better. Please send your
replies to me at the address above. I have emptied my in-box in anticipation! I
will read every email but will not promise to reply to them all.
Looking forward to meeting you and to a good year of racing
Graeme Brown
