Sunday 22nd saw a keen group of skiers venture to Alford for
our ‘no snow’ training option we had available this weekend. The numbers were
low compared to normal but still a good turnout of kids who worked well all
morning with coaches James, Andrew and Alex. Callum unfortunately had to take
Kizzy home who wasn’t feeling too great- we wish her all the best in her
recovery.
Development 3 and 4 were on timed runs first thing on a very
slick slope helped by the heavy frost- the ‘persuader’ tool was required for
setting gates all day with the frost not lifting all morning. The two groups
were under the careful watch of Andrew who was working with them on developing
turn shapes and getting weight onto the outside ski.
Development 1 and 2 were
with Alex this morning who put them through their paces in fitness with some
running on the frozen field followed by some further exercises before getting
onto the mat and continuing the work these groups started right back in October.
Performance 1 and 2 was a select group of 8 who after some warm up exercises
were asked to do some pair work by James to work on edge control followed by
fore and aft balance- spin the partner and control the partner. James then had
them skiing synchro in pairs joined by a pole before adding another pair to make
4 side by side with a competition between boys and girls for the best synchro
and then to finish off for two runs we had 8 skiers in a square all linked
together with race gates doing synchro down the hill under the full control of
Sophie R who tried to keep the pace. Whatch it on video here.
Team dual slalom at the end was with Perf 1 and 2 and Dev 1
and 2, Chairman Graeme made 4 teams and all teams raced each other twice
battling it out. The races were always pretty close (once we worked out some
teams had less kids).
All round a great day and hopefully all those that took part
enjoyed themselves.
Wednesday night week training will be running as per normal
this week at Alford from 7-9pm.
All the best.
James
Oh..........and which team won the races you ask? Well Graeme and Phil are still working on that one......come back Wilma, all is forgiven!!
