Performance Squad & Club Trials 2015

Wow, what a great day for Gordon Skiers. The weather was sooooo kind to us and (for once) I even felt warm. My proudest moment was when Kenny had to put his fleece back on and I was in a t-shirt. Everyone was in great spirits and I'm very thankful to the parents. Without their help, the trials would not have gone ahead.

It was great to see the team spirit with all the athletes working together, supporting each other and running up the hill with bacon rolls to the coaches.  I loved the BBQ.  Everyone back together with a friendly, yet mildly competitive, spirit.

Performance Squad Trials

Thanks. That's a start.
What an effort you've all made and I promise to go through the results and get back to you soon.
I realise there's been a lot of effort going on with training and it was a shame we had a few injured skiers who couldn't be there, or put in their best performance.
The coaches put together 5 tough tests that were developed from the US Ski Team performance tests. We tested Edge control, Rotary Skills, Balance, ability to change the pressure on the ski with a final challenge of a tight Suicide (slalom) course that tests all of the above.
It was great to see last year's performance skiers return for a trial and the new athletes giving it their all. Great performances from all and some incredible improvements.

New Member's Trials

Well done to the 9 skiers that were trying out for membership to the team. It's always encouraging to see new athletes keen to improve and become ski racers.
It was an amazing effort from all and the skiers really seemed to be a great fit for the club. If you didn't make it please watch the blog as I'd be really keen to see you back soon for another trial.
Hopefully, we'll have a chance to run another member's trial during the Winter season so keep an eye on the blog.

I'm already looking forward to the Autumn training starting. It's not long until we're back on the Alford dry slope, challenging the athletes.
It still surprises me how how much we can challenge skiers on the Alford mat.

Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or would like help with direction in skiing.

Many Thanks, Gary W
