Performance Squad & Club Trials 2015

Wow, what a great day for Gordon Skiers. The weather was sooooo kind to us and (for once) I even felt warm. My proudest moment was when Kenny had to put his fleece back on and I was in a t-shirt. Everyone was in great spirits and I'm very thankful to the parents. Without their help, the trials would not have gone ahead.

It was great to see the team spirit with all the athletes working together, supporting each other and running up the hill with bacon rolls to the coaches.  I loved the BBQ.  Everyone back together with a friendly, yet mildly competitive, spirit.

Welcome To Our New Members

We would like to welcome our new members who were successful at the club trials at Alford Ski Slope this morning. Congratulations to you all and welcome to Gordon Skiers.

We need you to complete three forms
Please remember to press the "Submit" button at the bottom!

Dates for the dry mat season are all on the calendar page, the first Sunday morning is October 4th. Dry mat training starts at 9AM sharp and finishes at 1PM.  You need to be at the slope at 8.45AM to be changed and ready to start at 9AM.  The skiers are split into groups and half the groups will do fitness training first, the other half will do skiing first with the two groups then swapping over.  There is a short break between the sessions when they can have a drink and a snack.  The last hour of training between 12 and 1 is spent with the skiers being split into mixed ability teams for some team racing on the slope.

If your skier needs help with changing into and out of skiing boots etc then you will need to be present at break time to give them a hand.

We have a parents rota to provide soup and snacks at the break time, we will be looking for volunteers at the first Sunday dry mat session.

We look forward to seeing you all on Sunday October 4th. If you have any queries then please drop us an email on the admin@gordonskiers.com address

Autumn Dry Slope Races

There is a busy  month coming up with the autumn dry slope races at Hillend.  We have the Craig MacFie on Sunday September 13th followed two weeks later by the Scottish Dry Slope Championships over the weekend of September 26/27th.  Sandwiched in between is the SSSA Dryslope championship on Sunday 20th September.

At present James has only been notified by 3 people that they have entered for the Craig MacFie and 2 for the Scottish Dry Slope Championships.  At these levels we cannot justify the expense of providing a coach for support.  If you have entered for either race then please let James know ASAP on racing@gordonskiers.com .

If you have not entered yet then please do so, these weekends are great fun for skiers and parents alike.  Entries are still open for both races.  Performance squad members should all be looking to do these races.

Last Call For Registrations

We have trials for both performance squad and club entry trials next Sunday 30th August.  For this reason the committee would really appreciate it if all our existing members who intend training with us for dry slope this autumn would complete the necessary registration forms.  We have a number of new members and we need to know how many places we have on offer for dry mat training.

We need all members to complete

Please remember to click the "Submit" button at the bottom of the form.

We also need to know how many members planning to come to the performance squad trials so we can plan the assessment stations.  Applications for performance squad trials will therefore close on Tuesday evening.

On the subject of Performance Squad Trials, we will not have the usual refreshments so skiers will need to bring along drinks and snacks.  We also need all skiers changed and ready to ski at 09.00.  The ski assessments will be done first and will take till about 11.00 and then the physical assessments will take place.  We will need all parents of skiers to stay to assist with the running of the physical assessments.  The physical assessments may take till about 2 p.m. depending on numbers.

Coach support for the race will depend on numbers entered so please get your entries in and remember to let James know you have entered.

Gordon Skiers Clothing

Thanks to some hard work by Lynne Duncan we are pleased to be able to announce that we have negotiated a deal with Rugby Plus to supply our club kit.  There is a range of hoodies, fleeces, rain jackets and "stadium pants" from CCC.  All tops will come with the Gordon Skiers logo on the left breast and  Gordon Skiers Racing on the back. All items can be personalized with embroidered names. Everything is available to order with immediate effect. We also intend to order a selection of sizes for members to try on prior to ordering and hope to have these available on trials day.

One significant advantage of using Rugby Plus is that members can place there own orders at any time rather than having a single order being compiled by the club and submitted annually as has been the case in the past.

Lynne is also in negotiations with the suppliers of our BeyondX ski suits.  News of this will be coming soon.
