2015 Gordon Skiers AGM Report

The Gordon Skiers AGM took place this week at the Learney Arms, Torphins. Thanks to all who attended and contributed to the discussions and to the committee members who gave their reports following a very successful year for the club.

Major achievements included the introduction of the Gordon Skiers blog, a strengthened, highly qualified coaching team, increased numbers of athletes entering races and the establishment of performance and development squads. The GS Open at the Lecht was one of many highlights.

It was also noted that several athletes from the club are now members of British national teams.

The new committee was elected and has already begun to discuss some exciting new ideas for the coming year. These ideas and proposals will be part of a new club development plan that we will share with the members, seeking their contributions to the process.

Proposals to develop the hut at the Lecht were raised as were ideas about GS clothing.

Discussion took place regarding a possible club ski camp for GS members, using GS coaching staff. The club has run camps successfully in the past and members at the AGM who had participated in these spoke very positively about this idea.

This year the club finances are healthy allowing us to review the fee structure and to progress some of the new ideas.

The club is run for the benefit of the athletes by enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers. The committee is very keen to welcome parents who could help with some of the tasks and perhaps even be persuaded to join the committee! Succession planning in any organisation is important and new faces helping to run the club is healthy. If anyone is interested to learn more then please speak to any of the committee. Sponsorship is one priority area we need help with.

One of the interesting themes from the meeting, raised by the members, was the benefit of ski race training within Gordon Skiers to the athletes in terms of building life skills, friendships, confidence and resilience.

On behalf of the committee I would like to thank all members for their continued support and look forward to seeing you at either the club disco next week or the start of the dry mat season later this year.

Graeme
