GB and Scottish Indoor Championships, Braehead 2015

Last weekend provided exciting and challenging skiing for all of the racers.

On Saturday 150 competitors traveled from all parts of Britain (including Ireland) to take part in the GBR indoor series at Snowzone, Glasgow. This however was nothing compared to the 200 competitors taking part in the Scottish Indoor champs on the Sunday. With such a huge number of racers on both days it was clear that each age category was going to be filled with tough competition.

The courses set on Saturday were challenging but if the racers took a smart approach, could produce some very quick times. Unfortunately there were problems with the timing system used and as a result the start time was delayed by over an hour. This did have its advantages however as it allowed the racers to prepare mentally and ask any questions about the course that may be bothering them.

On Sunday, soft snow conditions meant massive ruts were formed making it very difficult for the racers to see the correct line when they were skiing down. However everyone helped out with course maintenance in order to move as much snow off of the racing line as possible and as a result the course was running extremely fast and had maximum grip for the racers.

Between the boys and girls races we saw some great racing from the minis with Ben and Nathan skiing their hearts out and shredding down the stubby course.

Racers of the weekend go to Hannah and Neil. It was clear that both trainees listened to the advice given during course inspection and consequently made minimal mistakes producing very quick runs, WELL DONE!

Credit to Beth Whatford who managed to secure 2nd place in her category in both races over the weekend and a top 10 finish over all for both the British Series and the Scottish Champs, Indoor, events.

I'd also like to add thanks to the coaches. It's always a long day when so many racers have to complete 2 runs. It was brilliant to see the kids being motivated and taken care of by Jamie and James. I reckon Gordon's had the hardest working coaches on the hill. (GW)

The weekend brought to a close the races for a while with the next set of races on the 13th, 20th and 26th September all of which are at Hillend. Could everyone please put these dates in your diary as it would be great if we could get as many Gordon Skiers there as possible.

I wish you all a pleasant summer and look forward to seeing you at the Gordon skiers party and prize giving on the 26th June.

Awesome racing this weekend!

Best wishes,

Jamie :)

PS, Please remember we have the AGM this Thursday. If you're not there, then you won't be heard. Please come along and have your say. It's your club.
