Autumn 2015 Dry Mat Training

I know that many of you will be away on summer holidays and may not even have started thinking about next winters ski season however I am afraid its time to start organising for the Autumn 2015 dry slope season at Alford.

On Sunday August 30th we have both trials for performance squad for existing members and also membership trials for new members.  Because our numbers for dry slope training are limited we need to know how many of our existing members will be signing up for dry slope training this year in order to give us an idea of how many new members we can take on board.

Dates for dry slope training are Sunday 4th October and then a gap for the October break, recommencing Sunday 1st November through to the last session on 13th December.

Please sign up using the form below ASAP so that we can get an idea of numbers prior to the trials day on August 30th.  I am afraid it is also time to renew your membership and parental consent forms, both of which can be found on the forms page.

July Committee Meeting

Thursday evening was a long evening for the new committee with a lot on the agenda.  Our chairman Graeme was held up and hence a few minutes late and in keeping with tradition was landed with keeping the minutes!

We started off by welcoming Michelle Lints to the committee, she has kindly agreed to take on some of the admin duties.  Meanwhile Gary was trying to persuade anyone who would listen to take on his roles as Coach Convenor and Head Coach............luckily nobody was listening to him!

Here are a few of the items discussed

  • Date and arrangements for performance and club trials (see posts prior to this)
  • Dates for dry slope training (details will follow shortly)
  • Clothing, Lynne has done a pile of work on new clothing through Rugby Plus, details will be published on this site soon.
  • Scottish Dry Mat Champs and Craig McFie Classic.  We will be supporting the dry mat champs and also running a training day on the 12 September prior to the Craig McFie, support for the race on the Sunday will depend on numbers.
  • And much much more!

2015 Performance Squad Trials

It may only be July but believe it or not it's time to start thinking about the 2015/6 ski season!  We have fixed the date for the 2015 Gordon Skiers Performance Squad Trials.  So if you want to be in our Performance Squad for the 2015/16 season then you need to be at Alford on Sunday August 30th.

The format will be the same as last year with both fitness and skiing tests.  The tests will be the same as last year, for full details go to the Performance Squad Page.  There will be some minor adjustments to the skiing tests to suit the dry ski slope.

Remember, the slate will be wiped clean, being in last years squad is no guarantee of selection for the 2015/16 season!  So get out there and get training!

As many of you will remember from last year , it is a very full morning.  We need to know who is planning to come to the trials so we can organise the groups ahead of time.  We will also need plenty of parent helpers (at least 10) to assist with fitness tests so please complete the form below:-

Scottish Dry Slope Championships 2015

Message from Snowsport Scotland

We’re now accepting entries for this year’s Scottish Dryslope Alpine Champs at Hillend on 26-27th September. At the recent Indoor Champs there were lots and lots of late entry requests and whilst we want to give people the opportunity to enter we have to stick to maximum numbers for the event so early entry is encouraged so people can be assured of their place.

There will be a Mini’s race alongside the seeded race for racers in the U10 (2006-2007) or U12 (2004-2005) category. There will also be an informal Team Dual Slalom event (the latest addition to the Winter Olympics!) on Saturday 26th following the Slalom event.

Plans are being made for another fundraising Dual Slalom on Saturday afternoon/evening in memory of Andy Fitzsimmons. I will send out information about this as soon as possible.

More information on this year’s Champs is available here. If you could spread the word around those who may be interested in the club that would be great.

Last year we had a really strong entry for the Scottish Dry Slope Champs. This year they are moved to a much better time of year, avoiding the Edinburgh Festival so accommodation should be a bit cheaper. Get your entry in now so as not to be disappointed and please let James know you have entered on racing@gordonskiers.com.
