Alex Tilley - Life Member

Thanks to all racers who took part in training on Sunday. It was great to have Alex Tilley with us to help with the race training and to answer questions about her experiences skiing with the British team. In recognition of her achievements and attaining membership of the senior British alpine team, the club awarded her lifetime membership of Gordon Skiers. The award was presented by Iain Campbell who himself has been a member of the club for over 10 years and who is now helping with training and working towards further ski coaching qualifications. We hope our younger members will be inspired and encouraged by watching Alex and Iain progress through racing and coaching pathways.  Alex has kindly agreed to send us reports for our blog on a regular basis.

Biggest thanks to all the members that turned up today for training. It was great to see all the athletes very keen and motivated to train.

First Sunday of Dry Slope Training

Alex tilley

A message from Graeme Brown our Chairman:-

On behalf of the committee I would like to welcome all parents and racers who are coming to dry mat training on Sunday. I hope everyone has an enjoyable and successful season with plenty of snow this winter. I am delighted to announce that Alex Tilley who is a member of the British Senior Alpine Ski Team and a member of Gordon Skiers will be visiting the club on Sunday. She has a very busy training schedule so to have her visit and inspire our young racers is fantastic.

Alex is just newly returned from training and racing in New Zealand where she achieved some impressive results.

Ski Demo and Club Secondhand Sale

Ever wondered what you are supposed to be doing to maintain your child's skis.  Haven't got a clue on how to prepare skis for racing?  Well we have the solution for you.  We have arranged for Phil Pearson from Blues The Ski Shop to come along to our dry slope session at Alford on Sunday October 5th.  He will also be bringing along Mike Crawford from Datawax.  They plan to do some sessions for the kids and parents on ski waxing/tuning etc and will have some stuff to sell.

On the same day we will also be holding our club second hand sale so if you are looking for second hand kit to help contain the costs or to offload clothing they have grown out of, its time to clear out the cupboards and bring it along to the ski slope.

Exciting Result For Alex Tilley!

Great news for Gordon Skier Alex Tilley, see the article below from British Ski And Snowboard. Alex is a life member of Gordon skiers having started her skiing career with the club.

Exciting results for Great Britain's Alpine skiers this weekend

There have been some exciting results from Great Britain’s Alpine skiers this weekend in the Southern Hemisphere.

Charlie Guest kick started the weekend with a 5th place finish in Saturday’s FIS Slalom race, with Laurie Taylor finishing in 8th place in the men’s. Charlie went on to make the podium in Sunday’s first FIS GS race in Treble Cone with a 3rd place finish, with Alex Tilley following close behind in 5th. In the 2nd FIS GS race on Sunday, Alex took 3rd place with Rachelle Rogers coming 15th. Great results from the rising stars of British Alpine racing.

Alex and Charlie’s coach Stefan Moser said: “All the girls were skiing really well and the top level race was a good test for the upcoming Europa Cup season. I was proud to see Charlie and Alex sharing the podium with Anna Hofer and top World Cup skier Michaela Kirchgasser.”
