Twin Peaks, 6th & 7th June 2015

A final reminder for those yet to enter, the closing date for entries for Fir Park is Monday 1st June and is paper based so you need to get your entry in the post ASAP!  The Hillend entry closes tomorrow Friday 29th May but can be done online.

The Twin Peaks weekend of FirPark on Saturday followed by Hillend on Sunday is a great weekends skiing.  We have coach support for both races and Gary will be running a training session at Hillend on the Saturday afternoon/evening.  We plan to go straight from Fir Park to Hillend for the coaching session.  Last year we were away from Firpark by 2pm and had about 3 hours skiing at Hillend in preparation for Sunday's race.

We have a good entry for the races but it would be good to see some more entries, especially in the younger age groups.

Twin Peaks and Indoor Races at Braehead

We have, as far as we are aware, got very small numbers entered for the Twin Peaks weekend and the indoor races at Braehead the following weekend.  It may just be that some of you have entered but forgotten to let James know.  We need to try and finalise numbers so we can arrange coach support so if you have entered or are even considering entering can you please let James know using the racing@gordonskiers.com email address.

If you have in the past entered these races but are unable to go this year due to other commitments, it would also help so that we can cross you off the list of possibles!

These weekends really are great fun and on the twin peaks weekend we get loads of skiing in with a training session on the Hillend slope in the afternoon/evening on the Saturday.

Many thanks,

Paul

Email from Graham Mounsey Snowsport Scotland re Age Bands For Summer Seeded Events

Hi there,

Having been in discussion with Ian Roberts, Chair of the TD Forum, it has come to light that I made a mistake in my below email sent to you a few weeks ago. For ‘Calendar Races’ i.e. seeded races such as Twin Peaks, GBR Indoor, Scottish Indoor etc, U8 competitors are not permitted to race in the U10 category of the minis race run alongside the seeded race. I have amended the age categories below so that U10 category is for those born 2006-2007.

Those in the U8 category will be permitted to race in the minis races run alongside club events and club championships or any race that isn’t a ‘Calendar Race’. I have copied below a section from the email from Ian Roberts:

607 Age Limits

607.1 The Calendar Period is March 1st – November 30th. In order to compete, a competitor must have been born within the calendar years defined annually by FIS. However, FIS does not legislate below U14 so the British specification for the current season is at http://www.britski.org/agegroups2015s.pdf

Thus, those born in 2008 and after may not compete in a ‘Calendar Race'.

Sorry for any inconvenience that this may cause, mistake on my part in the original email. If you have any questions don’t hesitate to get back to me.

Many thanks,

Graham

Age Bands are therefore :-
  • U10 – 2006-2007
  • U12 – 2004-05
  • U14 – 2002-03
  • U16 – 2000-01
  • U18 – 1998-99
  • U21 – 1995-97
  • Senior – 1994 or older (Masters categories may apply)

Twin Peaks

Entries are now open for the LSRA Special Slalom and the Firpark Slalom, the two parts of the Twin Peaks weekend.  Follow the link below to the LSRA website and Britski.org for the entry forms.  The LSRA form can be done online, the Firpark one needs printing out and mailing

Twin Peaks takes place over the weekend of 6th & 7th June, at Tillycoultry on the Saturday, then  Hillend on the Sunday.  If racing ends early enough on the Saturday then we will go down to Hillend straight afterwards for a training session on the Hillend slope.

We had really good numbers entering the dry slope races last year and some great results.  It would be good to keep up that momentum.

If you are entering for any of the summer races it is essential that you let James know so that we can arrange the appropriate level of coach support.  Please email James on racing@gordonskiers.com

Bairns Bucket 2015

Well folks, just when you thought we had hung up our boots, the Gordon's Bairns were out defending our Honour.

The Bairn's Bucket, delayed for weather earlier in the season, took place on Sunday 19'th at the top of Cairngorm Mountain. The day started off a bit door and driech, but the sun was soon blazing down on our 8 racers, coach and temporary coaching assistant. We had a great support and attendance from parents too and it seemed all were having fun, both skiing and supporting.
