LSRA Bairns and Lassies 2015, Last Call For Entries

Entries for the Bairns and Lassies race close this Friday October 16th. The race is at 2pm Sunday 25th October at Hillend. As it is an afternoon race there is no need for an overnight stay.

It is an un-seeded race so it's also open for un-registered racers. So if you are new to racing then this is the one for you. It would be great to have a good turnout of our younger racers so if you are planning on entering then get your entry in now and then please let James Paxton know you have entered by emailing racing@gordonskiers.com .

One thing to note is that the Forth road bridge will be closed that weekend so allow for some extra journey time as you will need to come round via Stirling or the Kincardine Bridge.

LSRA Bairns and Lassies Race 2015

Entries are now open for the 2015 Bairns and Lassies race.  It is on Sunday 25th October, the last Sunday of the half term holiday and is in the afternoon so will not necessitate an overnight stay in Edinburgh for a change!

Entries close Friday 16th October at 5pm.  This un-seeded race is open to both registered and un-registered racers in all age categories up to and including Under 16. It is an excellent introduction for those new to racing.  It would be great to have a really strong entry from Gordon Skiers so why not give it a try?

Autumn Dry Slope Races

There is a busy  month coming up with the autumn dry slope races at Hillend.  We have the Craig MacFie on Sunday September 13th followed two weeks later by the Scottish Dry Slope Championships over the weekend of September 26/27th.  Sandwiched in between is the SSSA Dryslope championship on Sunday 20th September.

At present James has only been notified by 3 people that they have entered for the Craig MacFie and 2 for the Scottish Dry Slope Championships.  At these levels we cannot justify the expense of providing a coach for support.  If you have entered for either race then please let James know ASAP on racing@gordonskiers.com .

If you have not entered yet then please do so, these weekends are great fun for skiers and parents alike.  Entries are still open for both races.  Performance squad members should all be looking to do these races.

Scottish Dry Slope Championships 2015

Message from Snowsport Scotland

We’re now accepting entries for this year’s Scottish Dryslope Alpine Champs at Hillend on 26-27th September. At the recent Indoor Champs there were lots and lots of late entry requests and whilst we want to give people the opportunity to enter we have to stick to maximum numbers for the event so early entry is encouraged so people can be assured of their place.

There will be a Mini’s race alongside the seeded race for racers in the U10 (2006-2007) or U12 (2004-2005) category. There will also be an informal Team Dual Slalom event (the latest addition to the Winter Olympics!) on Saturday 26th following the Slalom event.

Plans are being made for another fundraising Dual Slalom on Saturday afternoon/evening in memory of Andy Fitzsimmons. I will send out information about this as soon as possible.

Last year we had a really strong entry for the Scottish Dry Slope Champs. This year they are moved to a much better time of year, avoiding the Edinburgh Festival so accommodation should be a bit cheaper. Get your entry in now so as not to be disappointed and please let James know you have entered on racing@gordonskiers.com.

Twin Peaks, 6th & 7th June 2015

A final reminder for those yet to enter, the closing date for entries for Fir Park is Monday 1st June and is paper based so you need to get your entry in the post ASAP!  The Hillend entry closes tomorrow Friday 29th May but can be done online.

The Twin Peaks weekend of FirPark on Saturday followed by Hillend on Sunday is a great weekends skiing.  We have coach support for both races and Gary will be running a training session at Hillend on the Saturday afternoon/evening.  We plan to go straight from Fir Park to Hillend for the coaching session.  Last year we were away from Firpark by 2pm and had about 3 hours skiing at Hillend in preparation for Sunday's race.

We have a good entry for the races but it would be good to see some more entries, especially in the younger age groups.

Twin Peaks and Indoor Races at Braehead

We have, as far as we are aware, got very small numbers entered for the Twin Peaks weekend and the indoor races at Braehead the following weekend.  It may just be that some of you have entered but forgotten to let James know.  We need to try and finalise numbers so we can arrange coach support so if you have entered or are even considering entering can you please let James know using the racing@gordonskiers.com email address.

If you have in the past entered these races but are unable to go this year due to other commitments, it would also help so that we can cross you off the list of possibles!

These weekends really are great fun and on the twin peaks weekend we get loads of skiing in with a training session on the Hillend slope in the afternoon/evening on the Saturday.

Twin Peaks takes place over the weekend of 6th & 7th June, at Tillycoultry on the Saturday, then  Hillend on the Sunday.  If racing ends early enough on the Saturday then we will go down to Hillend straight afterwards for a training session on the Hillend slope.

We had really good numbers entering the dry slope races last year and some great results.  It would be good to keep up that momentum.

Scottish Indoor Alpine Championships 2015

No sooner has the snow season finished and it is time to start thinking about the indoor and dry slope season!

Twin Peaks is the weekend before this but as yet there are no details and entries are not open, we will keep an eye out for them opening and post here when they are.  Towards the end of last years dry slope season we built up a really strong Gordon Skiers entry in the races at Hillend.  It would be great to keep up that momentum this season.  These weekends are great fun for parents and skiers alike.

2015 Gate Crash Cup, Email from Snowsport Scotland

As you may know, we are running FIS Races (inc. The Scottish Alpine Champs) at Nevis Range from 9-12th April. In conjunction with these races we will also be hosting a non-seeded, informal slalom race, The Gate Crash Cup, on 11th and 12th April. This will run alongside the FIS races using the SL same course.

Entry is £20 per day including 3rd party liability insurance with two age categories: 16-29, 30+. The start list will be made up on a ‘first come, first start’ basis! Entry form available here - http://po.st/MUjH5x.

Scottish Championships:- Important Notice

Just in case any of you have not heard, here is the email that has been received from Neil Ross re the Scottish Childrens Championships.

"I am pleased to confirm that the races are planned to go ahead at Nevis Range  this weekend providing no serious adverse weather prevents us from doing so.

Unfortunately due to the restrictive snow conditions the Bairns Bucket has had to be postponed. This is hoped to be re-scheduled for a weekend in April  at Cairngorm snow permitting."

So ONLY the CHILDREN will race  this weekend at Nevis. The Bairns races have been postponed until further notice. (They may happen on Cairngorm in April)

So, for Gordon Skiers........

• The Children will be supported for the races on Nevis, this weekend.
• The Bairns will train as usual at the Lecht, so long as it's open. I'll confirm that as soon as I can.

To try and simplify things for those who have both children and bairns, training for all those not racing on the Sunday will be over at Cairngorm - the whole club is moving lock stock and barrel!

We are looking at having a club meal on the Saturday night- times and location are not firmed up yet.

Scottish Skier & Boarder Cross Championships Glenshee , 28 Feb - 1 Mar

This weekend sees the Scottish Skier and Boarder Cross Championships up at Glenshee.  This year the course will be over on Butcharts due to the snow conditions.

We are aware that after last years successes a number of you are keen to be involved and have already entered.  Could you please let us know ASAP if you have entered so that we can finalise numbers for training on Sunday and also see if we can arrange coach support for the skier cross.

Cairngorm Open, 21st/22nd February

Hot on the heals of the Glenshee Winter Games comes the Cairngorm Open weekend on the 21st / 22nd February.  We need to know numbers entering for this weekend in order to sort out coaches and accommodation assuming numbers are sufficient.

Everyone at the Glenshee weekend will vouch for what a great weekends racing was had with great snow, great courses and great weather along with performances to match.

Glenshee Racing and Training, Saturday & Sunday 7/8th February

Evening All,

I'm looking forward to another hot weekend of racing and have my fingers crossed for some great results for Gordons.

The coaching team this weekend is as follows:-

• Ali, John MacRae and Gary W on Saturday. Race support for Bairns and Children. 
• Ali, Malx, Jamie, Alex and Gary W on Sunday. 

Alex is new to the coaching team. I'm sure everyone will make him feel very welcome. Alex is an ex-racer and qualified ski instructor, so is another great addition to the coaching team.

We have 19 racers on Sunday, so will have coaching available for those not racing. Coaches will be swinging by the races though with their groups, to let them see what it's all about and that racing really is fun.

Bib collection for the racers is 08.30 so an early start.

As ever, please let me know if you have any questions.

I've already been made aware of 4 skiers not coming. Josh and Lennon A, Daisy C and Nathan S. These lucky 4 are off to the Alpes. I hope they have great fun.

New to the skiing squad this weekend will be Sophie Calder. Sophie has been a Gordon's Skier for many years and it will be fantastic to see a return of the Calders.

Glenshee Winter Games, Feb 7th / 8th

Calling all Gordon Skiers.  Following on from the successes of last weeks Gordon Skiers Open, next weekend the 7/8th February sees the venue move to Glenshee for the Glenshee Winter Games.  There are both BASS and Bairns races.  Entries are still open and it would be great to have another really strong entry from the Gordon Skiers  so we can try and repeat some of last weekends successes.

As Racing Convenor, James needs to know who is entered so that he can arrange the appropriate coach support for the racers.  If you have entered then please contact James on racing@gordonskiers.com and let him know.

It would be great to reciprocate the support that GPS gave us at our races last week.

Gordon Skiers Open Update

Few more points to raise before the weekend. We are almost set for the weekend so hopefully see you all on Saturday and Sunday.

• It has been pointed out to me that the bulletin should have said that U16 times will be combined each day, its only U14 that are separate.
• We are lucky enough to have ‘My Race’ ski shop attending at the weekend with their van, it will be parked near the Gordon Skiers hut and will be selling race equipment, so pop along and see what they can offer.
• Race Officials- lunches will be provided and can be picked up from the hut during race briefing. Hot drinks will be supplied on the hill.

Ammendment to Race Details

I rushed last night and made two mistakes on the bulletin;

• Bairns will be two days of GS style courses.
• Medals- the Championship race day will be Saturday and not a combination of times from both days.

Course team, bib issue and anyone that is free to help first thing please can we arrive and be ready for 8am start, due to the huge numbers of athletes we would really like to get moving as soon as possible and there will be a lot of setting up to do for the BASS race with regards to gates and safety fencing.

Gordon Skiers Open Weekend

• Please note that full details are now available on the race page on this website. 
• Can all members please note that the club hut is out of bounds this weekend as it will be used for the race organisation.
• We have 190 entries.  This will take a lot of organising so can all parents who have not already volunteered their services please speak to James Paxton.

Snow Race Support Fees

A quick update about  Race Support Fees prior to this seasons snow races.   This year snow race support fees will be invoiced by the treasurer at the end of the snow season.  If a member is on a race acceptance list then race support fees will be due regardless of attendance other than when there is a medical exemption.

• For members who are registered for snow training for the season, race support fees on non-training days will be charged at £10 per trainee.
• For members not registered for snow training who require race support the charge is £20 per day per trainee.
