Performance Squad Trials

Well done to everyone involved in the Performance Squad Trials this morning, skiers, coaches and helpers!  Thanks especially to Gary and Wilma for all the effort that went into organising the session, putting 30+ skiers through all the skiing and fitness tests, it was little short of amazing when you know that Gary spent the previous two days completing the 180 mile "Ride The North"!

The morning started at 9 prompt with the skiing tests with some impressive demonstrations of one ski skiing and jumping, even from the younger members such as Ben Whatford here making his fathers tests look easy!!

And despite being put through all these fiendish skiing tests, some skiers even appeared to be enjoying the experience.

Such enjoyment was however short lived!  After a short refreshment break and suitably fueled with flapjacks, biscuits etc the physical assessments commenced. There was a series of assessments designed to assess fitness, balance, sprinting etc. and following a demonstration by head coach Gary (who looked disgustingly fresh considering all his cycling) everyone was split into groups to work there way round the tests. By the end there were a lot of very tired skiers so if your skier falls asleep whilst eating their supper, its not their fault, blame Gary!  Here's just a few examples of the tests.

The Bear Crawl
So thanks go to the skiers, it was great to see so many trying out for the performance squad and with such commitment the future of the club is looking bright.  The results will take a bit of time to compile so we will let everyone know by email over the next couple of weeks.
